The Transformation of Suffering 2026
June 22 - Aug 1, online
Through Spirituality & Practice and
Contemplative Outreach, Ltd.
Global
This e-course asks us to look honestly at suffering, not as something to explain away, but as something that can be brought into the mystery of divine presence and transformation. The reflections, images, and videos explore suffering as an evolutionary and transformative process in and through the divine/human experience. The content includes excerpts from various Thomas Keating videos and writings, the wisdom of numerous contemplative witnesses, and the practice of Visio Divina with the crucifix images of artist William Congdon. This e-course invites us to live with contemplative courage, not rushing toward easy answers, but allowing silence, Scripture, art, prayer, and shared practice to help us see more deeply. June 22-Aug 1, online, with facilitators Pamela Begeman, Matt Scrimgeour, and Mary Williams. For more information and to register, please click HERE.

Seeking the God Within
Two of the basic teachings of Fr. Thomas Keating are his human development theory that he describes as The Four Consents, and the Prayer in Secret. During our time together, Fr. Bill Sheehan will explore these teachings as a way of going deeper and discovering in the words of St. Augustine that the God we seek is closer to us than we are to ourselves. Resources referenced: Thomas Keating: Invitation to Love, and Manifesting God.
We will be in silence for meals, breaks and prayer time. Periods of Centering Prayer will be included in our time together. There will be discussion following each of Fr. Sheehan’s presentations. Spiritual companioning, and body work will also be available. July 19 - July 26 at Holy Spirit Retreat Center in Encino, CA. Register online at hsrcenter.com by June 28.
